Just over a year ago the Dermatology PA Foundation (DPAF) officially launched at the Society of Dermatology Physicians Assistants’ (SDPA) Annual Summer Dermatology Conference 2016 in Austin, Texas. With the initial outpouring of support at that event, and through the subsequent fundraising activities of the DPAF, huge strides have been made towards our goal of giving back to the dermatology community.
Fast forward to 2017, and the Foundation is continuing to grow.
This year DPAF staff attended the SDPA’s Annual Summer Dermatology Conference in San Diego, California. While the SDPA was hard at work successfully launching the Diplomate Fellowship program (with over 500+ members enrolled within the first week!), the DPAF launched its first ever Virtual Run/Walk/Sleep-in. This unique event was designed to allow participants to complete the run, walk or sleep-in on their own timeframe and benefitted the National Alopecia Areata Foundation (NAAF). The SDPA Conference Running Group, which is an informal group of members who get together to run/walk at the summer and fall conferences, met up on Saturday morning, June 3rd, to complete the race.
In addition to the Virtual Run/Walk/Sleep-in, the DPAF also hosted a free education session which featured a clinical research panel discussing the nuts and bolts on how to get started doing clinical research titled “Let’s get started.” Lastly, we collected a generous amount of extra dermatology product samples from attendees which were donated to Cosmetics for a Cause.
Below are some of the photos from the conference.
The DPAF would like to thank everyone who contributed at the conference by purchasing one of the SDPA S’well bottles or by making a direct contribution to the Foundation. This continued support, along with the generosity of our corporate partners, will allow the Foundation to work towards achieving its goals and mission.
Coming this fall! The DPAF will host its 2nd Annual Silent Auction in conjunction with the SDPA’s 15th Annual Fall Dermatology Conference to be held in San Juan, Puerto Rico this November. Like the inaugural event in 2016, this year’s event will be held simultaneously online and on-site (inventory dependent) during the conference.
The 2017 event will be very similar to 2016 auction which featured over 40 contributed items ranging from jewelry to trips, dermatology educational tools to original artwork, and more. Over $9,000 was raised by the inaugural event to help send children and PAs (as volunteers) to Camp Wonder in California.
Your help is needed! We are asking for contributions from supporters to help make this year’s event an even greater success. If you have items that you would like to contribute to the DPAF for the upcoming silent auction, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org. We will be accepting contributions through September 1st, 2017. With each donated item, staff will send you a donation receipt for your tax records. All net funds raised from the auction will once again go towards sending children with skin diseases, along with volunteer PAs, to attend Camp Wonder.
