We are thrilled to report that in the DPAF’s kick-off year our members have helped us skyrocket to success. This past June in Austin, Texas, during the SDPA’s Annual Summer Dermatology Conference, we raised over $18,000, and added 18 new Founding Circle Donors, towards helping us fulfill the DPAF’s mission and goals.
So far, with the help of our supporters, we have already been able to send two campers to the American Academy of Dermatology’s (AAD) Camp Discovery and will be able to contribute $20,000 towards sending children and PAs (to volunteer) to Camp Wonder in California in the coming months. In addition, through the generosity of our donors, the Foundation has donated $7,500 towards the Melanoma Research Foundation in conjunction with funds raised by our 5th annual Miles for Melanoma (MFM) participants and supporters.
And we’re not done yet! We are challenging our supporters to donate just $10 towards our end-of-year campaign. If every SDPA member contributes this small amount we can raise over $27,000 to put towards our mission and goals. In 2017 we plan to begin exploring possibilities for expanding our programs into new arenas such as research, educational scholarships, providing education programs, and more!
Here are a few updates on what we’ve been up to these past few months:
DPAF Inaugural Silent Auction
At the SDPA’s 14th Annual Fall Dermatology Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, we ran the DPAF’s Inaugural Silent Auction. Through an online version of the auction, as well as on-site bidding, we were able to raise over $9,000 towards our $20,000 fundraising goal!
The Foundations supporters and partners really came through allowing us to offer members and attendees the opportunity to bid on more than 40 fantastic items including vacation trips, art, wine, dinners, and dermatology specific education tools and products.
For a first event, it was a huge success and well owe it all all to you, our members! We plan to hold silent auctions during future SDPA conferences and contribute the funds towards a chosen project or program each year. If you have auction items, similar to those listed above, to contribute to the cause, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
This year’s silent auction funds will be contributed towards sending children and PAs to attend and volunteer, respectively, at Camp Wonder in California. Camp Wonder specifically works to take in children who may be unable to attend other camps as their illnesses require around-the-clock medical attention. Although we didn’t quite reach our target fundraising goal from auction sales, the DPAF Board of Trustees voted to donate the remaining funds to ensure we reach the full $20,000.
THANK YOU for making this a successful first event and contributing towards our program goal.
5th Annual Miles for Melanoma 5K Run/Walk
Once again, the Melanoma Research Foundation (MRF) held a Miles for Melanoma 5k Run/Walk that coincided with an SDPA conference. This year’s event, held Saturday, November 5 [during the SDPA’s 14th Annual Fall Dermatology Conference], was the fifth time in a row that such an event took place and the first in which the Dermatology PA Foundation (DPAF) took over hosting duties. Thirty-four dedicated conference attendees got up very early to participate and help raise money for a great cause. In addition to the money raised by the participants, as well as donations received onsite at the conference and from supporters online, the DPAF pledged an additional $7,500!
Results of the 5th Annual Run/Walk:
- 1st Place Fundraiser: Matthew Brunner
- 2nd Place Fundraiser: Joleen Volz
Female Race Winners:
- 1st: Chelsea Barr
- 2nd: Katie Mehall
- 3rd: Jenny Dickson
Male Race Winners:
- 1st: Matthew Volz

Thank you to all our runners, walkers and contributors! The DPAF is honored to be contributing a $7,500 donation to the Melanoma Research Foundation towards their search for a cure.
